Joining New York Restoration Project’s AmeriCorps team, supported by The Corps Network (TCN) and its Opportunity Youth Service Initiative (OYSI), is a way to put your idealism into action. As an AmeriCorps participant, you contribute to your community while being trained in leadership skills, job readiness and specific environmental job skills that lead to future employment opportunities. Join our dynamic team, you will grow as an individual and open up opportunities for your future.
New York Restoration Project believes that everyone deserves access to beautiful, high-quality public green space. We have worked in NYC for over 20 years as partners in underserved communities to transform public open space into functioning parks and gardens for community use. Join us for an informational interview and we can show you some of the wonderful projects our teams have been involved with, and find out if you qualify to join us.
Successful AmeriCorps participants will be assigned to our field operations or community engagement team, responsibilities will vary, including daily litter patrol; basic horticultural tasks of watering, weeding and planting; leading groups of volunteers in project work; hosting a small gardening workshop or a large community festival; building compost bins; tree planting; and any other tasks that best serve the neighborhoods we work in.
We look for enthusiasm and a willingness to learn; training will be provided. All AmeriCorps members must be available to work a full-time schedule— 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. We have two schedules, Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday. One weekend day is mandatory. We work outdoors; this is physical work and requires stamina, physical strength and a tolerance for working in all weather conditions.
