Arborist Assistant - full time
Arborpolitan is looking to hire an employee to assist with the day to day operations of our tree care firm. This position would allow the applicant the chance to enter the field of arboriculture and work in all areas of tree care from pruning and planting, to organic integrated pest management and working with natural methods of caring for green spaces in NYC. All with the support of a solid crew of co-workers.


  • Perform plant health care visits to gardens to deep root fertilize, apply organic products to reduce or control outbreaks of plant pests and disease
  • ID plants, trees, shrubs, and woody vines correctly
  • ID pests, abiotic issues, and pathogens of plants
  • Collect samples of tissue from plants for lab testing or office review
  • Obtain a NYS Pesticide Apprentice License
  • Help to plant and install new gardens, work with designers to create urban greenscapes. Assist gardening and learn the ins and outs of nursery selection
  • Pruning, rigging, and learning fundamentals of basic use of tree care equipment including chainsaws and chippers
  • Driving in city streets with trucks and vans


  • 1-3 years experience in the fields of arboriculture, gardening, tree work, landscape design, or agriculture
  • Team player and solid communicator open to feedback, desire to learn and advance in the field of arboriculture
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs or more and work in all weather conditions
  • Background in arboriculture, tree and shrub ID, and insect/pest disease a plus
  • Valid driver’s license required; previous truck-driving experience a plus
