Landcraft Environments, Ltd. is located on the North Fork of Long Island. We are a wholesale grower of tropical, tender perennials and unusual annual in addition to a few fairly common annual plants. We sell a majority of our product to IGC’s, Public & Botanic Gardens, Estates, Municipalities and Landscapers. We have seen a tremendous increase in the use of exotic and tropical plants among gardeners of all stripes over the years. Our aim is to remain at the forefront of this trend and introduce new and exciting plants every year.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Assist and oversee the production of all plant material
  • Work with head Grower and General manager to schedule crop care in a timely fashion to ensure the highest quality for our customers
  • Use fertilizer BMP’s and make decisions based on the needs of the crop
  • Oversee irrigation and instruct assistant growers when necessary
  • Oversee greenhouse environmental controls and adjust set points as necessary
  • Pesticide management, use IPM BMP’s to manage pest populations
  • Review Pesticide Handlers Training and Worker Protection Training with all employees
  • Maintain pesticide application records
  • Assist with ordering young plant material
  • Assist in research and development; new plant material evaluation and marketing ideas.
  • Assist with establishing quality control standards
  • Attend weekly production meetings
  • Assist on sales, assisting customers in order pickups and walk-ins
  • Assist in order picking and loading
  • Oversee updating propagation schedule and culture guides
  • Assist in planning all aspects of new construction

Qualifications/Requirements

Must have greenhouse/nursery experience or experience in a related field of horticulture. Be willing to obtain a NYS Pesticide Applicators License within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Skills
Knowledge of common floriculture crop culture.
Understand pH, alkalinity, and water quality. Be able to mix fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides. Diagnose the 5 major greenhouse pests. Experience with finished and young plant production.
