Compensation: $50,000 per year

The Associate Manager, Commerce + Experience is responsible for supporting the retail operations with a specific emphasis on horticultural operations at NYBG Shop, including: plant receiving, pricing, merchandising, product order fulfillment, nursery maintenance tasks and daily operations. They will uphold the plant quality and professional standards expected of NYBG while assisting in meeting sales goals and educating visitors.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Works with the Director of Commerce & Experience and Manager, Retail Experience to ensure operational efficiency in receiving, tagging, stocking, displaying, markdowns, watering, and maintaining all plants in NYBG Shop during all seasons and weather.
  • Be in communication with Directors and Manager regarding product sales and store objectives.
  • Manage inventory, reduce shrinkage, run reports, and work with warehouse to make sure store is always stocked.
  • Share plant and product knowledge, new arrivals, and current trends to inform and inspire customers and staff.
  • Actively participate in managing the store environment and customer experience by
  • facilitating an energized pace and ensure the team is heard and supported.
  • Seeks out knowledge to become an expert in all store plants and products; plans and executes collaborative and educational meetings to elevate employee confidence.
  • Provides timely and specific employee feedback to foster a culture of action and accountability.
  • Supports daily operating processes such as opening and closing procedures, customer service, and register functions.
  • Adheres to store's safety standards, inventory accuracy, and upholds all company policies to support store profitability.
  • Provides insights related to customer and employee experience and communicates feedback to the Shop or Store Manager and Director.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 3+ year of experience in plant care and nursery maintenance
  • Bachelor's degree in Horticulture or related field, preferred.
  • Knowledge of tropical, orchids, annuals, perennials, and their scientific names
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to move or lift up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather.
