Compensation: $20-$28/hr
We are looking for several part-time, flexible, and experienced GARDEN-BASED educators to guide student groups in ecology, gardening, nutrition, sustainability, green infrastructure, civics, and related topics.

Beazer’s Garden Workshops (BGW) guides urban ecology and gardening education programs in schools across NYC.
We are aware of the benefits of reconnecting with nature, and the importance of growing nutritious and healthy food, but gardening does much more! Gardens are naturally educational spaces that allow people to engage in a variety of topics related to ecology. Gardens blend concepts of the interdependence of living things, sustainable urban development, and green infrastructure; Gardens can provide opportunities for civic engagement and stewardship through the care of these beautiful and calm spaces within our busy cities.

- Pay rate: The pay rate depends on your level of experience in outdoor garden education.
- Job Type: Part-Full-time/ 1099 contract or W2 depending on position
- Location: Schools across NYC boroughs.
Responsibilities/Duties
You will be responsible for creating and conducting eco-based lessons for students from Elementary - H.S. & Adult CTE programs. You should have at least 3 years of practical gardening and teaching experience, be comfortable working outdoors year-round, with the ability to identify and care for basic garden plants and insects. Should have the ability to help install and/or maintain school gardens. Should be versed in a variety of gardening techniques, such as in-ground/raised beds/hydroponics/rooftops/tabletop garden systems.
You should have the ability to develop, prepare, and present eco-content to groups in outdoor or indoor spaces and be familiar with the Common Core, Next Generation Science Standards, International Baccalaureate, and/or the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We provide direction and curriculum resources, but encourage our educators to develop their own content and style.
Help us teach communities to know, grow, and eat healthy food, and guide them in their roles as stewards in the urban environment!
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must enjoy and be skilled in working with people, be creative, and be patient with a good sense of humor. Additional skills in arts, music, yoga, dance, sports, etc. are a plus.
- Experience and ability to effectively engage students in their learning while providing a fun and safe learning environment.
- Must be responsible, with the ability to work independently and in a team, and interact professionally and respectfully with school staff, students, and parents.
- Must have clearance to work in the US.
- Maintain student records while maintaining confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school.
- A NYS Teaching Certification, or a bachelor’s degree in a related science field, is not required, but is a plus.
- Having DOE, DOI, or PETS fingerprints to work with children, and current CPR/First Aid is a plus.
- Fluent French and/or Spanish speaking is a BIG plus.
- Organized, with effective time management and planning skills; with quick-thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to improvise.
- General administrative skills, should be comfortable on computers (for meetings/communication, payroll), Google Classroom, Padlet, and Social Media skills are a plus.
