Compensation: $50,000-$70,000

The Farm Manager is responsible for the systems, scheduling, and day-to-day management of Harlem Grown’s farms, greenhouses, school gardens, and composting facilities with oversight of Executive Director and Agriculture Director. The Farm Manager will supervise and support the entire agriculture team of farmers, greenhouse staff, service corps members and interns, ensuring that the agriculture team effectively manages production, creates engaging farm-based programming, and welcomes youth and community members into our green spaces. The Farm Manager will collaborate with the Development Team to coordinate volunteer service opportunities, and will collaborate with our program and mentor staff to ensure our sites are well managed, programmed, and welcoming to children and the community. 

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Set schedules and supervise Farm Crew, consisting of Central Farms Coordinator, Farm Crew members, greenhouse staff, volunteers, and seasonal farm interns  
  • Provide a supportive, structured learning environment for entry level farmers and interns to learn the basics of urban farming and experiential education  
  • Supervise development of a crop plan including start dates, inventory, and schedules.  
  • Ensure effective planning, design, and maintenance of farms and gardens, as well as harvesting and distribution of produce 
  • Support the Agriculture Director in carrying out the Agriculture Team’s strategic plan 
  • Collaborate with the Program team to plan curriculum, evaluate, and train and schedule staff and interns to lead engaging educational lessons and service learning activities at our agriculture facilities 
  • Work with the Development team to schedule, staff, and coordinate feasible, seasonally-appropriate service tasks and projects for volunteer groups 
  • Manage service opportunities on the farms for individual volunteers of all ages, including scheduling, preparation, supervision, and tracking, with support from agriculture team  
  • Create and monitor Agriculture budget; ensure team operates within approved budget; monitor and approve all budgeted expenditures 
  • Ensure agriculture team is maintaining accurate farm records of harvest yields, pest control efforts, food scraps collected for composting, volunteer engagement, and other farm activities  
  • Train agriculture team and interns on site safety protocols, including maintenance and storage of equipment 
  • Collaborate with Ag team members to provide weekly farm updates for HG staff, social media, and other promotional efforts 
  • Work as a team member to support Harlem Grown initiatives and programs 
  • Serve as a role model for youth and reinforce Harlem Grown’s values of honesty, respect, and responsibility 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Experience managing a team 
  • Experience strategically planning using OKRs, KPIs, or a similar framework 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of soil-based and hydroponic farming practices 
  • Experience working at a non-profit 
  • Valid driver's license and comfort driving a truck (non-CDL)

Schedule:  
April-October: Tuesday-Saturday 9:00-5:00 
November-March: Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00
