Compensation: $82,995.00 - $110,625.00
Westchester County Parks, Recreation & Conservation is looking to hire a Forester. We are responsible for over 18,000 plus acres of land consisting most of forest coverage. The Forester will be responsible for the overall investigation, evaluation, planning, supervision, protection and management of trees an forested areas across PRC & Westchester County.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Develop and implement a comprehensive urban forest inventory and management plan for Westchester County lands with the goal of improving habitat and species diversity. Including: inventorying, maintaining records, conducting inspections, prioritizing maintenance, removals, and planting
- Develop and implement Integrated Pest & Disease Management Programs
- Provide technical assistance to other agencies, municipalities and the public about planting, tree removal, pest & disease control, firewood usage & safety practices
- Train personnel in the best practices of tree care, pesticide use, forest health and pest management
- Assist in the production planning and management of the county tree nurser
- Work as part of the Conservation team to develop comprehensive management plans to preserve the County’s natural resources.
- Supervise staff, students, volunteers, and interns conducting work to achieve goals of the tree management program.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or related field & 3 years of technical forestry experience
- New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Pesticide Certification in categories 2 & 3A
- Proficient with GIS tools such as ArcPro, FieldMaps, etc
- Experience in Grant Writing
