Freelance Landscape Designer and/or Fine Gardening
Start Date: 1/1/20 Compensation: TBD
McDermott Landscape Design is a small landscape design business based in Portsmouth, NH. We offer complete landscape design and project management services in Portsmouth, NH, Greenwich, CT and surrounding areas.
Our residential projects include everything from gardens and landscapes, to stone walls, patios, walkways, pool design, annual flower displays, container gardens, and more. We design and oversee the installation of all of our projects, source the plants from reputable nurseries, coordinate with talented installation crews, and work alongside them to get a project completed. We have several properties that we maintain in the Portsmouth area as well.
There are two roles we are looking to fill for the 2020 season:
This person could be based either in the Greenwich, CT area or the Portsmouth, NH area, but someone who is willing to travel to sites on occasion, and then assist with designs (which could be done remotely). We are looking for someone who possesses design knowledge and capabilities. Ideally someone who can either hand draw proficiently, or use appropriate software to reflect professional designs. 3D knowledge, either by hand or through software, would be highly desirable. (We currently use Dynscape software, though we are certainly open to other software types). The candidate would be responsible for everything from intitial meetings with clients, site evaluations and site measurements, devising base plans, concept plans, design work, plant selection, occasional client meetings, plant sourcing, project management, and overseeing the installation of our projects. We do it all to get any given job completed in an organized and efficient manner.
For our Portsmouth, NH based role, we are looking for a hands-on person with garden maintenance experience. The ideal candidate would possess a working knowledge of plants and plant care, and be able to do such tasks as weeding, mulching, edging, pruning, fine gardening, etc. Must be able to work independently in these tasks, and with little supervision to ensure the successful maintenance of several of our clients’ properties. No mowing or lawn care is involved.
We are currently looking for someone with design and/or hands-on landscape management experience that would like to join a small growing team. Someone who is highly motivated, experienced in the landscape industry, and able to work independently. Hours vary, but typically we work long hours in the spring and summer, a bit less come fall, and winter is much slower.
We are a small company but growing quickly and looking to expand even further. We love what we do, and we work long hours during the season to create beautiful, creative spaces for our clients to enjoy. If you are self-driven, and have a professional mindset for plants and landscape design, we would love to hear from you!
