 Compensation: $25-$35/hour

The Full-Time Gardener is highly skilled in urban fine gardening and deeply understands ornamental horticulture practices. The Full-Time Gardener works as part of our team to enhance and maintain the beauty of our clients’ gardens, while working in an environment of mutual respect.  Travel is required to our service areas, primarily within but not limited to Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx. Tools are provided.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Carry out a wide range of gardening duties to the highest standards, including planting, pruning, deadheading, weeding, mulching and watering.
  • Prune shrubs and small trees according to best practices in arboriculture, promoting healthy growth and an attractive appearance.
  • Leave every job site pristine and showcase ready, driving exceptional client satisfaction with your attention to detail.
  • Stay proactive by flagging any safety or operational concerns to your supervisor right away.
  • Accurately identify plant species, insects, and diseases, taking swift action to keep gardens healthy and thriving.
  • Operate and maintain hand-held power equipment such as leaf blowers.
  • Follow safety guidelines for the use of chemicals (fertilizer, pest control) and the operation of equipment and tools.
  • Represent Bluestar Gardens with professionalism in all interactions with clients and the community.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Proven experience as an ornamental horticulture consultant or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of local plant species, gardening techniques, and aesthetic presentation.
  • Ability to operate and maintain horticultural tools and equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards of work.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to take direction, work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Punctual for 9am start times at various NYC locations.
  • Ability to lift up to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly, and can squat, kneel, bend over, and reach for extended periods of time.
  • Must be comfortable working on rooftops, on balconies, and at other heights.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Maintain personal cleanliness and a presentable appearance.
