Hort and Pott is launching a new venture and is seeking a hands-on, Greenhouse & Garden Associate to help care for and maintain our outdoor garden spaces & living elements that define our retail experience. This role is hands-on, physical, and detail-driven — ideal for someone who finds satisfaction in tending, maintaining, and preparing plants and sculptural objects so they can be experienced at their finest.
You’ll work closely with our team to steward nursery stock, water features, and outdoor installations, while supporting the arrival, movement, and placement of large garden vessels and sculptural pieces. This is a role for someone who enjoys purposeful work, values beauty through care, and is eager to grow their plant knowledge through daily practice with a small collaborative team.
Responsibilities/Duties
Plant & Nursery Care
- Water, prune, fertilize, and monitor the health of nursery plants
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation of greenhouse and outdoor growing areas
- Refresh soil, repot as needed, and assist with seasonal plant transitions
- Identify basic plant needs and alert leadership to issues or changes
Greenhouse Environment & Systems
- Monitor temperature, humidity, airflow, and light levels
- Operate greenhouse fans, vents, and shade cloth as conditions require
- Adjust structures and coverings to support seasonal and daily changes
- Support basic greenhouse systems maintenance and report issues promptly
Garden & Feature Maintenance
- Empty, clean, and refresh water features and fountains
- Clean and care for outdoor sculptures, vessels, and garden objects
- Maintain a tidy, intentional environment aligned with the brand aesthetic
Physical & Operational Support
- Lift, move, and position heavy pots, planters, furniture and sculptural elements
- Assist with uncrating and organizing occasional large deliveries
- Support layout changes, resets, and seasonal installations
- Safely handle tools, materials, and equipment
Customer Interaction & Plant Sales
- Confidently communicate plant characteristics, care needs, and placement guidance
- Offer customer assistance in selecting appropriate plants based on light, space, and lifestyle
- Share care instructions in a clear, grounded, and encouraging manner
- Act as a steward and educator, not a high-pressure salesperson
Qualifications/Requirements
- You have foundational plant knowledge and curiosity
- You’re attentive to environmental conditions and willing to learn technical processes
- You have foundational knowledge of greenhouse systems and willing to learn
- You can perform physical work and are comfortable lifting heavy objects with machines
- You’re detail-oriented, observant, and proactive
- You work well independently and within a small, hands-on team
