The Horticultural Society of New York is seeking an energetic and dedicated Gardener to support horticultural work in open spaces throughout New York City. The Gardener will carry out garden maintenance and projects in a timely and professional manner, working to clean, maintain, and plant public spaces with a focus on public plazas and open streets.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Perform horticultural maintenance and installations
  • Communicate logistical challenges and general conflicts as they arise
  • Take care of tools, supplies, and uniforms provided
  • Survey condition of sites
  • Communicate status of job site, including improvements needed or issues
  • Participate in education days/professional development

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Horticulturist/gardener with hands-on experience building, and maintaining urban green spaces, gardens, and/or urban farms
  • Interest in working as part of a pilot city program
  • Comfortable traveling daily to new sites throughout NYC
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to perform physical labor outside in various weather conditions

All employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their start date
