Start Date: 03/02/26  Compensation: $30/ hr

(re)plants is seeking a skilled and passionate gardener to maintain and enhance private gardens across Manhattan and Northwest Brooklyn. This role requires expertise in high-end garden care, including container gardening, rooftop gardens, courtyard spaces, and street facing entry gardens. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of plant care and sustainable gardening practices, with an eye for aesthetic detail and a commitment to excellence. 

This position is a good fit for a gardener with 3+ years of experience, including 1+ years in New York City. The ideal candidate enjoys variety in day to day tasks, has strong gardening skills, enjoys working both in a team and independently, and is proactive in seeking solutions to challenges.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Plant
  • Weed
  • Prune trees and shrubs for form and deadwood
  • Deadhead perennials and annuals
  • Manicure and groom plants
  • Artfully train vines onto supports
  • Identify common pests, diseases, & beneficial insects
  • Treat pests with methods approved for organic gardening
  • Select plants from local nurseries and deliver to project sites
  • Use a variety of software programs to coordinate with the team
  • Collaborate with design and install staff to lay out plants according to planting plans and make plant substitutions when needed
  • Load and unload tools, plants, and materials to and from vehicles, nurseries, and gardens
  • Drive cargo vans to and from NYC/ NJ/ LI/ Upstate NY
  • Leave each garden looking better than you found it 
  • Liaise with clients to communicate relevant information

Qualifications/Requirements

  • At least 3 years of paid gardening experience
  • Excellent plant identification skills and knowledge of perennials, shrubs and trees used in ornamental horticulture
  • Basic knowledge of common pests, diseases and beneficial insects
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record, ability to parallel park, and operate a cargo van
  • Enthusiasm and interest in horticulture and urban ecology
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs for moving, carrying, and relocating heavy objects
  • Willingness to work in inclement weather
  • Dependable, punctual, with an excellent work ethic
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work independently or within a team
  • Relevant horticultural certifications or degrees (preferred but not required)
  • Hospitality mentality towards client service

Additional Information

Compensation: $30 an hour, 32-40 hours a week, paid days off
