Start Date: Early April Compensation: $25-$35 per hour
Naima Green and Ruomi Lee Hampel of Blue in Green Gardens LLC have over 25 years of experience designing, installing, and maintaining landscapes throughout New York City. We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated and hardworking fellow plant-lovers to join our amazing team of talented and friendly gardeners.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Working with our team to perform seasonal plantings in established gardens, installing new gardens, and maintaining them all.
- Effectively communicating the state of various gardens with other team members in person, or via video, photo sharing and/or emails to ensure their health and aesthetic.
- Maintaining the utmost level of detail and decorum in the landscape as well as the interiors of our clients’ homes and gardens.
- Understanding the job expectations and coming to work prepared for the day.
- Possibly working with team members to locate perennials, annuals, trees, and shrubs from various wholesale nurseries.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Preferred: a valid driver license and competent in driving a cargo van.
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor (some days lifting around 40lbs repeatedly), in all weather conditions.
- Strong plant and weed identification skills.
- Basic knowledge of plant disease and insect pests.
- Comfort in working independently and also with others.
- One or more years of horticulture/urban gardening experience.
- Strong communication skills and basic computer knowledge (such as navigating a google calendar, and returning emails in a timely fashion).
Additional Information
This is for a part time position, however if a good fit/ skill level it can possibly be full time.
We work primarily in Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn.
