Compensation: $30-$35/hour
A Private Residential Estate is seeking a focused, hard-working individual to assist our Horticulturist in their daily tasks, regular property maintenance and client needs. The Garden Assistant is a hard-working individual who can assist the Head Gardener with their daily tasks such as watering, weeding, general cleaning and harvesting.
Preferred applicants have some background experience in gardening but is not required. Any additional skills or qualification that apply will be considered an asset. Assistant must demonstrate a strong work ethic, naturally moving from one task to the next efficiently with care and must be comfortable with the tedious but critical aspects of plant care (like weeding and hand watering).
Applicants should be positive, respectful and demonstrate initiative. They should be collaborative and willing to jump in to help others and comfortable working independently at times. Clear communication with other team members is important.
*On-site housing is not offered.
Responsibilities/Duties
Assisting the Head Gardener with:
- The maintenance of a variety of formal gardens, vegetable gardens and greenhouse.
- Performing most aspects of plant maintenance, including but not limited to planting, pruning, deadheading, weeding, mulching, planting, watering and cleaning/sweeping.
- Additional responsibilities may include carrying out simple farming duties, not limited to harvesting, soil cultivation, bed preparation and propagation assistance.
- Hand-watering Greenhouse and outdoor plants.
- Travel independently to garden sites in Greenwich, CT and Bedford, NY.
- Communicate clearly with management and team.
- Contribute to the upkeep of our greenhouse garage spaces, tool storage, outbuildings and vehicles.
Qualifications/Requirements
- No experience required. However, any gardening experience will be considered an asset.
- Must have own vehicle, a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Must maintain a neat, professional appearance on site.
- Is punctual, time efficient and is responsible.
- Can take direction and is a team player, can work collaboratively alongside a team and demonstrates initiative.
- Communicates clearly.
- Can lift 50 lbs. repeatedly, and can squat, kneel, bend over, and reach for extended periods of time.
- Willing to work in most weather conditions.
Additional Information
WHAT WE’RE OFFERING:
- A part-time position, 4 days/week or around 32 hrs./week.
- An hourly rate of $30-$35/hr. depending on experience.
