Start Date: 3/21/26  Compensation: $91,000 per year

Supervise the University's horticulture, waste and recycling work to include 11 acres of green space, 70 gardens, courtyard plantings and green roofs; assign work, support staff and monitor performance. Serve as liaison to contractors, facility managers, janitorial sttaff and DSNY to advise on waste handling procedures; communicate changes in procedures or services. Route and coordinate gardening and collections work. Work, recruit and train volunteers, students, civic organizations and general public on greening projects.

Required Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent although college degree especially in horticulture, agronomy or related field essential.  
  • Position is that of a working rather than administrative supervisor with ample field responsibilities.

    Required Experience: 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in horticultural, janitorial, recycling, and solid waste operations across multiple facilities, including some supervisory experience.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Thorough working knowledge of horticulture practices and equipment, New York City Waste Management Plan required.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Verifiable working knowledge of urban gardening design and installation, powered equipment and maintenance essential.
  • Familiarity with union environment, OSHA, office computer software and apps preferred.
  • Must possess valid NYS driver's license and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
