This role supervises the day-to-day operation of a specialty flower and produce farm that blends thoughtful design, good land stewardship, business/marketing acumen, and smart management into a thriving family business. We are seeking someone who is excited to grow with the farm over the long term and help shape its future.

The right candidate brings both an eye for aesthetics and a strong set of ethics when it comes to working the land. They will be capable of organizing the layout of the farming area, equipping the operation with the right tools, planning the crops from seed to harvest, and managing additional seasonal labor as needed. This position will be responsible for vegetable and cut flower crop production. Based on current production goals, the initial growing area will be roughly 2,500 square feet including beds and pathways.

The farm is committed to enriching the surrounding natural environment through organic and low-impact management practices as well as adding wildlife and pollinator habitat to the surrounding land. The farm also aims to enrich the human environment by welcoming visitors, attracting tourism, and supporting the local community through stable employment.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Plan crops and production schedules; maintain records and organized systems
  • Order seeds and manage inventory of supplies (trays, soil blocks, compost, netting, trellis, labels, etc.)
  • Map beds and design planting layouts for both beauty and efficiency
  • Manage flower, vegetable and herb production from seed or start through the full growing cycle
  • Scout for and manage pests, weeds and diseases using integrated pest management strategies
  • Harvest, process, and store cut flowers, herbs, and vegetables
  • Create bouquets and assemble produce share boxes
  • Oversee farm maintenance - tool storage and organization, cleaning (e.g., sanitizing trays), greenhouse management
  • Manage irrigation, composting, mulching and general landscape care
  • Interacting with customers and farm visitors

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in cut flower and vegetable production, farming, gardening and/or estate gardening/maintenance. Significant home experience considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Strong preference for local candidates
  • Demonstrated ability to plan crops for continuous harvest throughout the growing season
  • Ability to comfortably lift and carry 40+ pounds regularly
  • Working knowledge of the floral industry and the ability to adjust crops to meet trends and market demand
  • Experience managing people, including identifying seasonal labor needs and training farm assistants
  • Strong work ethic and clear communication skills
