Compensation: $23.00 per hour
Domino Park and Two Trees Management Company are seeking a Horticulture Intern to join our growing team! This hands-on position is an exciting opportunity to come work with us! Come help us maintain a wide array of extraordinary green spaces. The Horticulture Intern will play an integral role in maintaining the horticultural design intent established by Two Trees Management Company and Field Operations. Under the general supervision of the park’s operation team, the Horticulture Intern will report to the Director of Horticulture and rotate through daily duties with the full-time gardeners. The position will be based at Domino Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This position will require travel to various properties in Downtown Brooklyn, Dumbo and Manhattan on a weekly rotating schedule. Duties will include the upkeep and maintenance of diverse plantings including natives, trees, grasses, sedges, perennials, bulbs, and sedum green roofs.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Under normal supervision, carries out daily gardening tasks.
- Conducts daily weeding and maintenance of existing plantings.
- Helps propagate and grow plant material from nursery stock, seed, cutting and divisions.
- Installs new plantings including bulbs, perennials, shrubs, and trees.
- Operates hand tools, power tools and landscaping equipment.
- Travels with the gardener team weekly to maintain green amenity spaces at residential and Commercial properties; roof decks, courtyards, and green roofs.
- Assists with various composting duties with our state-of-the-art in-vessel composting system.
- Participates in Horticulture related public programs.
- Maintains a professional environment in compliance with the Domino Park Code of Conduct.
Qualifications/Requirements
Who You Are:
- Hardworking, energetic, self-motivated, and dedicated to the details.
- Enthusiasm for working in a public garden setting.
- No formal education requirement but an Interest in Gardening/Horticulture as a professional career a plus.
- No prior experience is required: willingness to learn and communicate effectively is essential.
- Comfortable working with a team to achieve park mission.
- Ability to walk and move continuously throughout a regularly scheduled eight-hour shift in all types of weather.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
