Horticulture Intern

A private estate in Northern Westchester, with extensive plant collections and a variety of garden types is seeking a Horticulture Intern.

The internship is a unique opportunity to strengthen and expand one’s horticultural knowledge and fine gardening skills while polishing his/her plant recognition and nomenclature. The gardens contain an encyclopedic collection of plants, many rare, throughout the varied collections and most are clearly labeled. The intern will work closely with a knowledgeable horticultural staff using best practices on garden maintenance, as well as special projects that can be tailored to the intern’s specific interests or academic requirements. The internship is a rigorous and demanding garden experience, in all weather, from spring through fall for a minimum of 24 weeks (start date flexible). Daily duties include planting small trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals, weeding, mulching, propagation, IPM, watering and grooming display beds.

An ideal candidate will have gardening experience and/or horticultural training and be pursuing a career in horticulture. The intern should be motivated, inquisitive, and hard working with the ability to lift 50 pounds and perform strenuous work in all weather conditions. We require all employees to maintain an organized work environment and neat personal appearance.

The internship is seasonal, full-time, Monday – Friday, 8AM – 4:30PM, and paid hourly.
