Over the last fifteen years of designing award winning landscapes, we have realized the importance and need for providing continued support to clients. JPLA provides landscape maintenance oversight and continued refinement of the landscape. We believe continuity and long-term knowledge of a landscape is an important aspect of its stewardship. JPLA strives to assure NYC’s living landscapes are provided with the best care. This means helping our clients to identify the required services needed for their landscapes, identifying the specific horticultural and allied professionals needed and overseeing that these professionals work together to provide the best systems and strategies for the health of their gardens and larger landscapes.

We not only manage other professional but provide regular horticultural assessment, training recommendations and an electronic reporting system tracking the health and maintenance of the landscapes. JPLA has created this unique maintenance oversight role to safeguards the investments made in these spaces and supports the value that our client’s l places on providing ecologically productive and therapeutic landscapes for their community.

Joanna Pertz Landscape Architecture (JPLA) is a small, dynamic, award- winning design studio based in Dumbo since 2005. JPLA has built a portfolio of landscape design work that includes a range of project types and scales set in New York City and its surrounds. Projects include hospital campuses, multi-family residential developments, courtyards,
terraces and rooftops, public waterfront parks and small private gardens. JPLA also provides landscape maintenance long-term oversight for select clients. The studio fosters a collaborative environment and places a high value on design, sustainability and the craft of built work.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • ​Weekly site visits preforming Horticultural review of urban campus landscapes.
  • Creation of reports on Plan Grid
  • Scheduling meetings
  • Meeting with client landscape team to review issues
  • Share expertise with landscape teams and suggest continuing education opportunities.
  • Critic planting and landscape management to increase productivity of the landscape. Finding way to increase the use of native plants and ecologically supportive management practices.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education:Degree in Horticulture or related field, or equivalent combination of training, skills, and experience.

Professional Experience
Landscape Design simultaneously

  • Three – five or more years’ experience working in the Horticultural field or
  • Knowledge of horticulture / landscape maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of native and adaptive plants (Northeastern US)
  • Proficiency or ability to learn quickly PlanGrid, Adobe CCS, Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Planting Design sensibility
  • Experience communicating professionally with clients and consultants
  • English language writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage workload across multiple projects
