Position Summary

Green Hūs is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and personable horticulture professional to join our team as an Installation and Maintenance Gardener. This role involves caring for residential gardens in an urban setting, ensuring vibrant, healthy landscapes throughout the year. Our projects include urban backyards, rooftop gardens, terraces, balconies, window boxes, and tree pits. As a key team member, you’ll work directly in and around private homes, requiring a professional demeanor and an eye for precision.

Responsibilities/Duties

Installation Responsibilities

  • Installation of planters, drainage, and soils
  • Planting annuals and perennials: flowers, bulbs, grasses, trees, shrubs, forbs
  • Regular use of hand tools and occasional use of power tools 

Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Seasonal plant care: feeding, watering, pruning, planting and removing annuals, spring and fall cleanup, winterizing, seasonal decorating

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years or more experience in horticulture, estate gardening, landscape design, landscape maintenance, and restoration ecology
  • Proven experience in urban gardening techniques with a focus on plant health and ecosystem interactions
  • Experience with Irrigation and low-voltage lighting systems is a plus
  • Certifications: OSHA 30 and SST 10 or willingness to complete training 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, time management, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a polite, orderly, minimally disruptive, and tidy fashion 
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in diverse weather conditions
  • A valid driver's license is preferred but not required

Candidates will be asked what aspects of horticulture they have experience with or knowledge of, such as IPM, pruning, planting, plant identification, irrigation, lighting, hardscape, woodworking, etc.

Compensation
Competitive hourly pay: $30–$40/hour, based on experience

Working Conditions:
Work takes place rain or shine at multiple locations throughout Manhattan. Shifts are 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.
