Interior Plant Care Specialist (Part-Time)
(Paid Opportunities) Return to Paid Opportunities
Start Date: ASAP Compensation: $20-$35/hour
We are a New York City-based interior landscaping company that designs, installs, and maintains plant collections for offices, retail spaces, and other commercial environments across Manhattan.
Our services range from small desk arrangements to full-lobby installations, and we pride ourselves on keeping every plant looking its best.
We are looking for an experienced interior plant care specialist to join our growing team.
This is a part-time position (16 to 24 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM) with a clear path to increased hours and pay as the company expands.
Our compensation is structured to reward skill and commitment: $20/hour during a one-month training period, $25 to $30/hour at regular rate, and up to $35/hour based on speed, quality, and client feedback. We believe in paying top rates for top work.
This role is best suited for someone who brings positive energy to their work every single day. Plant care is physical, repetitive, and detail-oriented. We need someone who genuinely enjoys it, not just tolerates it. If you have professional experience maintaining interior tropicals in commercial settings, take real pride in your craft, and show up each day with enthusiasm, we would love to hear from you.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Maintain interior plant installations at commercial client sites across Manhattan on a bi-weekly service schedule
- Assess individual plant health and provide appropriate watering, pruning, cleaning, rotation, and replacement to keep every installation in excellent condition
- Identify and treat common pest and disease issues; flag advanced problems to the team promptly
- Leave every client space spotless after service. No water rings, soil, or debris.
- Log detailed visit notes and next-visit action items in our mobile app after each stop
- Assist with new installations and deliveries: wrapping, transporting, and staging plants with the arranging crew
- Build positive client relationships. Answer basic plant care questions, communicate professionally, and represent the company well on-site. A warm, friendly presence at client locations is part of the job.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Professional hands-on experience maintaining interior plants in offices, lobbies, retail spaces, or similar commercial environments (home gardening or nursery/retail experience alone does not qualify)
- Working knowledge of common interior tropicals: watering cycles, light requirements, soil and drainage needs, and pest/disease identification and treatment
- A consistently positive, upbeat attitude. This is non-negotiable. We are a small team and every person's energy affects the whole group, our clients, and the quality of the work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, carry up to 30 lbs, and climb ladders to access tall specimens and living walls
- Clear, professional communication skills (spoken and written English) for client interaction and team coordination
- Strong time management and route-planning ability; you will manage multiple client stops per day via public transit
- Proficiency with smartphones and basic apps for scheduling, visit logging, and communication
- U.S. work authorization and comfort navigating NYC by subway and bus
- Reliability and punctuality. Clients and teammates depend on a consistent schedule.
Additional Information
Compensation structure:
- Training rate (first month): $20/hour
- Regular rate: $25 to $30/hour
- Performance rate: up to $35/hour, based on speed, quality, and client feedback
- Trial period: 3 months
Why join us:
- Competitive pay with a transparent performance-based structure
- Supportive team environment with ongoing training and mentorship
- Growth pathways into installation, design, and team leadership
- A team that actually enjoys the work. Positive energy is part of how we operate, not just something we put in a job posting.
A note on fit: Attitude matters as much as skill on our team. We are looking for someone who finds real satisfaction in the daily, hands-on work of keeping plants thriving, not just in the first few weeks, but month after month. The kind of person who walks into a building, sees a struggling Pothos, and genuinely wants to fix it. If maintaining a healthy Ficus on a rainy Tuesday morning sounds like a good day to you, we should talk. If you are just looking for any available position, this is probably not the right match, and that is okay.
To apply, send your resume and a brief note describing your commercial interior plant care experience and what you enjoy most about this type of work.
