Cambridge is a premier commercial services company based in Long Island City, New York, serving some of the city’s most prestigious commercial properties for over 20 years. We specialize in commercial landscaping, interior plantscaping, floral design, and holiday décor for Class A office buildings, corporate campuses, residential developments, and institutional facilities throughout the five boroughs.
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Plant Technician to join our growing Interior Landscaping division. In this role, you will be responsible for the care, maintenance, and presentation of interior plant installations across our portfolio of high-profile commercial properties in New York City. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who is passionate about plants, takes pride in their work, and thrives in a fast-paced urban environment.
This is a full-time position based out of our Long Island City headquarters, with daily routes servicing client locations across Manhattan and the greater NYC metro area. Responsibilities/Duties
- Perform weekly and bi-weekly maintenance visits to commercial client sites, including watering, pruning, cleaning, fertilizing, and rotating interior plant installations
- Monitor plant health and diagnose issues such as pest infestations, overwatering, light deficiency, and disease; escalate or treat as needed
- Replace plants that are declining or no longer meet presentation standards, coordinating with the operations team for replacements
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation of planters, containers, and surrounding areas to ensure a polished, professional appearance at all times
- Communicate professionally with building management, tenants, and property staff during site visits
- Track and document service visits, plant conditions, and any issues or replacements using company systems
- Assist with new plant installations, seasonal refreshes, and special projects as assigned
- Safely load, transport, and deliver plants and supplies using company vehicles
- Follow all safety protocols and building access procedures at client sites
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of service quality
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in interior plantscaping, greenhouse work, or a related horticultural field preferred
- Working knowledge of tropical and subtropical plant species commonly used in commercial interiors (e.g., Dracaena, Aglaonema, Pothos, Sansevieria, Ficus, palms)
- Familiarity with plant health diagnostics including pest identification, nutrient deficiencies, and disease management
- Ability to work independently and manage a daily route of client locations efficiently
- Valid driver’s license required; comfort driving a company vehicle in NYC
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail and a professional, client-facing demeanor
- Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain a consistent schedule
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required
- NYBG certificate, horticultural degree, or equivalent training is a plus
