Start Date: Immediate Compensation: Compensation is discussed at time of interview and will be commensurate with applicant's experience. Hourly pay and bonus structure to be discussed.
The Key-Holding Nursery Care Associate reports directly to the Shop Owner. This role is for someone who obsesses over the customers’ experience as much as they obsess over plants and who is looking to grow their career within a small business environment. You will support the day-to-day running of the Shop while maintaining our collection of living plants.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Provide excellent customer service
- Perform Shop opening and closing procedures including counting register funds, preparing bank deposits, opening and closing register
- Utilize, share and build a deep knowledge of both plant species and care
- Develop a plan for care for in-stock plants - both houseplants and annuals/perennials in the Shop Yard
- Communication of plant-care plans and progress with Shop Team, Managers and Owner
- Occasional off-premises plant-care
- Process deliveries, replenish Shop floor and Yard, maintain stock room
- Maintain overall Shop cleanliness, organization and visual presentation
- Execute daily task list
- Multitask, while making the customer the priority
- Communicate business trends, product feedback, stock levels and customer requests to the Shop Owner and the Shop Team
Qualifications/Requirements
- Deep knowledge of plants and their careBoth gardening and houseplant experience
- Positive attitude
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- An understanding of small business operating details
- Ability to manage time; to complete tasks and support customers’ needs simultaneously
- Motivated to problem solve
- Action oriented and energized by challenges and hard work
- Able to work independently
Additional Requirements - Work schedule of 25+ hours per week
- Flexible schedule required, including evenings, weekends and select holidays
- Prior experience in a plant-care focused role or commensurate education
- Prior supervisory experience in a retail environment preferred
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Ability to safely lift boxes up to 40 pounds
- Occasional outdoor work in inclement weather
- Ability and comfortability to climb ladders

Tend Greenpoint is an urban garden shop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We aim to help North Brooklyn’s small space gardeners - and aspiring gardeners - solve their planting needs. Our Shop holds a large collection of houseplants. Our shelves are stocked with containers, soils, tools, supplies, and gifts. Our yard is brimming with just the right plants for our neighbors’ stoops, windowsills, balconies, patios, and terraces (and the rare yard too!). We love to talk plants.
