Start Date: 03/14/2022  Compensation: $45,000 - $55,000 per year (Salary to be commensurate with ability and experience)

NATIVE LLC is a native plant nursery where we grow, sell and install a wide diversity of healthy, superior-quality, regionally-native plants to support local wildlife, improve our natural environment and create beautiful landscapes. NATIVE does this in partnership and collaboration with our parent company, William Kenny Associates LLC, which provides Ecological Consulting and Landscape Architecture services.

NATIVE is looking to hire a candidate to lead our Landscape/Habitat Management Team and assist with the completion of its work with enhancing local habitats through the installation and maintenance of native plants.

Job Type: Full-time (full year or seasonal)

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Prepare and submit native and sustainable project-proposals to customers
  • Work closely with our Inventory Manager to locate and order habitat projects supplies
  • Lead and complete native habitat and sustainable landscape projects according to client, contracts, budgets and schedules
  • Manage Invasive Species through manual, mechanical and chemical practices
  • Train and manage Landscape/Habitat Management Associates
  • Load and unload trucks with live plant material
  • Respond to customer requests and assist nursery staff
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are in proper working order
  • Establish plant and habitat maintenance schedules, and record and maintain maintenance activities
  • Examine and monitor nursery plants for disease, insects, wildlife damage, and weeds to protect their health
  • Monitor watering times, soil conditions, and plant positions and take proper actions to ensure nursery plants are healthy
  • Monitor weather patterns and take proper precautions to ensure the nursery plants are not distressed by unfavorable weather conditions
  • Maintain nursery property
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with all government laws, regulations ordinances and court rulings in those jurisdictions in which the company operates

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Landscape/Habitat Management Team Leader: Minimum 1 year (Required)
  • Valid CT Driver’s License and auto insurance (Required)
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the cultivation/installation and maintenance of trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials, and the health of plants
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Ability to identify weeds and invasive plants, apply control products as needed
  • Familiarity with pests and diseases of common landscape plants
  • Ability to successfully complete multiple projects
  • Ability to build strong customer relationships
  • Thorough and dependable team player
  • Safety-focused
  • Experienced in the use and safe maintenance of landscape and gardening equipment including mowers, blowers, and compact loader/excavator
  • Ability to drive a small work truck and trailer
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly, daily
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Must have US Passport or Social Security Card
  • Must consent to a background check
  • Relevant: Minimum 1 year (Required)

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)
  • BS - Landscape Management, Nursery Management, Forestry, Arboriculture, Landscape Design, Soil Science, or Environmental Management (Preferred)

  • License/Certification:
  • NOFA Organic Land Care Accreditation (Preferred)
  • Commercial Arborist License (Preferred)
  • Current and valid driver’s license in good standing (Required)
  • CT Pesticide License - Supervisor Level (Preferred)
  • US work authorization (Required)

Additional Information

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, 30-minute break for lunch
  • Some overtime
  • At least 1-2 days a week, you may be required to start as early as 7:00 AM
  • Weekend availability

  • Work Location:
  • Fairfield County, CT
  • Work will be conducted outside in all weather conditions in natural areas of various habitat types and geographic landscapes
  • Meeting location is in Fairfield, CT
  • You and your team will travel together in a company vehicle to the job sites
  • On occasion, you will be required to use your personal vehicle to meet with clients and will be reimbursed for mileage based on the current IRS rate
