Start Date: On or about 3/27  Compensation: $22-$26/hour

NATIVE LLC is a native plant nursery where we grow, sell and install a wide diversity of healthy, superior-quality, regionally-native plants to support local wildlife, improve our natural environment and create beautiful landscapes. NATIVE does this in partnership and collaboration with our parent company, William Kenny Associates LLC, which provides Ecological Consulting and Landscape Architecture services. NATIVE is looking to hire a candidate to join our Landscape/Habitat Management Team and assist with the completion of its work with enhancing local habitats through the installation and maintenance of native plants as well as traditional landscapes. 

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Complete native habitat and sustainable landscape projects according to client, contracts, budgets and schedules 
  • Manage Invasive Species through manual, mechanical and chemical practices 
  • Load and unload trucks with live plant material 
  • Assist nursery staff 
  • Examine and monitor nursery plants for disease, insects, wildlife damage, and weeds to protect their health 
  • Monitor watering times, soil conditions, and plant positions and take proper actions to ensure nursery plants are healthy 
  • Monitor weather patterns and take proper precautions to ensure the nursery plants are not distressed by unfavorable weather conditions 
  • Maintain nursery property 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Landscape Team Member: Minimum 2+ years (Required) 
  • Candidates with supervisory experience will be considered over those without 
  • Valid CT Driver's License and auto insurance and personal vehicle (Required) 
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the cultivation/installation and maintenance of trees, shrubs, grasses, perennials, and the health of plants 
  • Ability to identify weeds and invasive plants, apply control products as needed 
  • Familiarity with pests and diseases of common landscape plants 
  • Thorough and dependable team player 
  • Safety-focused 
  • Experienced in the use and safe maintenance of landscape and gardening equipment including mowers, blowers, and compact loader/excavator 
  • Ability to drive a work truck towing a trailer 
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly, daily 
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Must have US Passport or Social Security Card 
  • Must consent to a background check

Additional Information

Schedule:

  • Seasonal approximately mid-March to November, potentially longer depending on backlog 
  • 8 hour shift, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, 30-minute break for lunch 
  • Some overtime 
  • At least 1-2 days a week, you may be required to start as early as 7:00 AM 
  • Weekend availability rarely necessary but flexibility highly desired 

Work Location: 

  • Fairfield County, CT 
  • Work will be conducted outside in all weather conditions in natural areas of various habitat types and geographic landscapes  Meeting location is in Fairfield, CT 
  • You and your team will travel together in a company vehicle to the job sites 
  • Job sites may contain ticks and poison ivy and although personal PPE will be provided, applicant must be able to identify and work around both Experience: 
  • Relevant: Minimum 2+ years (Required) 

Education: 

  • High school or equivalent (Required) 
  • College education is a plus (especially in Biology, Ecology, Agronomy, Horticulture, Forestry or other Sciences)
