We are looking for a lead maintenance gardener to complete our team. This position requires working onsite with our garden maintenance team members and clients throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Candidates for this position should have a strong knowledge and love of plant culture and take pride in their work. We strive for every site to look it’s best at all times and that the work can be done at an efficient pace. This candidate should

be able to work both independently and in a team. Be able to lead and teach others proper pruning and gardening techniques. Quality control is achieved through diligent note taking, interaction with our online calendar system, and

reporting. Professionalism, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and sensitivity to personal environments is a must.

This a full-time/seasonal position with room for growth. Start date is mid-March with the season running to mid-December, depending on weather. Compensation is

  • Leading and working with maintenance gardeners to maintain the best overall plant health and cleanliness of hardscape with a focus on fine gardening that includes perennial and annual planting and maintenance
  • Lead and demonstrate accurate techniques for pruning plants
  • Share and teach best maintenancegardening practices with other team members with proper pace in time allotted
  • Provide input on scheduling of dailyresponsibilities and seasonal tasks for maintenance gardeners
  • Work with arborists for plant healthcare to provide the best solutions for pest management and pruning
  • Update the progress report and include sending photos of the completed work
  • Identify any requirements or supply needs for the project by updating the calendar with the required information
  • Maintain professionalism with clients and their gardens, providing attention to detail, sensitivity to personal environment and following up on unresolved issues
  • It is essential to be comfortable with maintaining and adjusting of irrigation systems, pest management and troubleshooting plant health or other garden issues.
  • Oversee multiple sites each day to maintain quality control
  • Develop and maintain a harmonious work environment


  • A minimum of 3+ years’ experience in landscape gardening profession – green roof, rooftop, urban environments a plus
  • Degree in landscape architecture, horticulture, or related field a plus
  • Experience as a team leader a plus
  • Knowledge of irrigation and landscape lighting
  • Ability to lift up to at least 50lbs
  • Willing to work in all kinds of weather
  • Smart phone is a must
  • Good working knowledge of plant material
  • Understanding of construction methods and handyman type skills
  • Ability to work well with high-end clientele and have a customer service focus
  • Must be detail oriented with ability to problem solve
  • Must be organized and on-time
  • Ability to meet deadlines, be proactive and multitask
  • Energetic, motivated and hardworking
  • Excellent sense of design
  • Self-disciplined and dependable
  • Able to take direction and work independently
  • Able to work well as a team
  • Weekend work is seldom except a couple possible Saturdays throughout the season
