Job Summary: The Lead Maintenance Gardener position requires a strong knowledge and passion for plant culture, along with a commitment to take pride in their work. We strive to ensure that every garden site consistently looks its best. The role demands knowledge of proper pruning and gardening techniques, as well as the ability to apply them effectively in the field. The candidate should be capable of working efficiently and independently while collaborating with others to accomplish the daily garden tasks. 

Responsibilities/Duties

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Site Management & Communication - Serve as point person for assigned sites, maintaining communication with maintenance gardeners and managers/directors, as well as clients, building workers, and superintendents when needed 
  • Plant Health Management – Responsible for plant health and irrigation settings at all times.  
  • Documentation & Reporting - Record detailed notes and photos in the site calendar after each visit.  
  • Time & Resource Management - Oversee efficient allocation of time and tasks for each gardener at the maintenance visit. 

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Complete day-to-day plant maintenance, pruning, training vines, scouting pests and diseases, monitoring and adjusting irrigation systems
  • Complete seasonal plant installations and other garden-related construction techniques on project sites   
  • Maintain a clean hardscape by sweeping/vacuuming leaves and debris; scrubbing/power washing 
  • Understand the schedule and daily duties 
  • Identify & communicate any requirements or supply needs for projects
  • Maintain garden supply organized, clean, and tidy  
  • Maintain professionalism with clients and their gardens, providing attention to detail, sensitivity to personal environment, and following up on unresolved issues 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Highly motivated, self-driven individual 
  • Must be able to problem solve 
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills 
  • Good time management skills 
  • Ability to take direction, prioritize, and multi-task 
  • Energetic, motivated, and hardworking 
  • Punctual, dependable, and willing to work in all weather 
  • Must own a smart phone 
  • Knowledge of irrigation and landscape lighting a plus 

Education & Experience: 

  • 3-5 years’ experience in garden maintenance – green roof, rooftop, urban environments a plus 
  • Good working knowledge of plant identification, health, and habit 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time 
  • Must be able to squat, lift, stretch, and bend to complete projects 

Additional Information

Employment Type:  This a full-time seasonal position with room for growth. Start date is on or around March 16, 2026, with the season running to mid-December, depending on weather.
