Botanical Garden Maintainer

Qualification Requirements
High school graduation and three (3) years of experience in building construction 

Appointments or Promotions
Appointments to positions of this class are subject to personnel administration policies and procedures of the botanical garden concerned, provided that all appointees must possess at least the qualifications recommended above.

Responsibilities/Duties

Under general supervision, performs responsible work in the maintenance and repair of botanical garden buildings, equipment, and facilities; performs related work.
Examples of Typical Tasks

  • Performs, or supervises the performance of, responsible general maintenance work or specialized work with regard to electrical wiring or fixtures, painting, glazing, stone work, woodworking, shop work, metal work, or automotive repairs.
  • Repairs and maintains heating apparatus and plumbing fixtures.
  • Keeps records and prepares reports on work performed and materials used.

Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30am-5:30pm
40 weekly with 1 hour daily lunch

The following are additions made to the Botanical Garden Maintainer Code No. 92810 job description.

  • In absence of the Supervisor the Botanical Garden Maintainer will assume responsibility, in coordination with management, for the Maintenance and Security department.
  • The Botanical Garden Maintainer will be part of the snow removal team, will assist with cleaning, and may be directed to provide assistance for garbage pick-up.
  • Must maintain a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in New York State.
  • Saturday and Sunday work required; evening, or emergency work as needed.
  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • May be required to pass a written and/or practical test.
  • Fire Guard Certificate of Fitness required within six months.

Schedule
This position requires a 40 hours/week schedule Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30am-5:30pm.

Salary range: Hiring Rate: $46,465, Incumbent: $53,435, Max: $68,219
