Reporting to the Director, the Manager for the Grounds Department is responsible for the care and maintenance of existing turf and planting areas for the Morningside Campus.


He/She will also be responsible for the inventory and care of all campus trees. The Manager directs the staff to maintain the campus and support all Special Events on campus. He/she helps manage the snow removal operation and strategy for the entire campus. Ensures that the department meets all New York City and State regulations and codes.


  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or related business experience totaling 6yrs. with a minimum of five years’ experience in grounds management required.
  • Horticultural and/or agronomic training required.
  • Certificate from two-year horticultural program required.
  • NYC certified pesticide applicator required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to work flexible hours and shifts are required.
  • Must be available for weather related emergencies (i.e.snow), including weekends and holidays.
  • Demonstrated experience in general administration including fiscal responsibility, workflow, resource and inventory management and personnel development.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word and Excel) is required.
  • Must be knowledgeable of plants and their care in an urban university environment.
  • Expertise in long-term landscape development and habitat protection is required.
