Compensation: 42,000 per year
Homefront Farmers is looking to hire 1-2 organic gardeners ("Homestead Managers") for the 2025 season. We are a vegetable gardening company serving clients in Connecticut and Westchester County, NY. As a member of our gardening team, you will plant and maintain a number of home vegetable gardens throughout the year. We will provide you with the knowledge and tools necessary to ensure your assigned gardens are productive, healthy, and beautiful. Days can be long and challenging. However, we have a supportive, collaborative work environment and like to have fun, too!
Compensation
This is a full-time, year-round, salaried position, with entry level pay of $42,000. Benefits include 10 days paid vacation, paid holidays (plus 2 floating holidays for religious observances), optional health insurance (after 2 months), 401(k) (after 6 months), and use of a company vehicle during the garden maintenance season (for employees aged 25+).
Our sister company, Nod Hill Brewing Company, also offers all employees a 25% discount.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Maintain 10-15 client gardens per week (weeding, pruning, harvesting, pest management, etc)
- Attend weekly staff meetings, and participate in group projects as needed
- During the off-season: design client gardens, greenhouse work, soil addition and amendment jobs, etc.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Ability to commute to Redding, CT daily- must live within 1 hour driving distance
- Ability to perform physical labor in all types of weather, and be able to lift at least 50lbs
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Professional experience in farming, gardening, or landscaping (1 year preferred- however, we will train right candidates)
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn
- A willingness to work as part of a team, or independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- A passion for organic gardening and sustainability
