Outreach Coordinator, NYC Compost Project Hosted by Queens Botanical Garden

Queens Botanical Garden is seeking a creative and dynamic individual to join our NYC Compost Project team in a full time position. The position will require a high level of public engagement that demands aptitude for volunteer management, curriculum development and delivery and inspiring of new audiences to compost. The
qualified individual will be joining a team devoted to compost outreach, education, and creation from NYC residential food scraps! Our team will look to this individual to engage new audiences through relationship building, social media, and partnerships; to be the primary point of contact for communications with volunteers and event participants; and provide training and supervision for a variety of interns and volunteers.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Coordinate and supervise weekly volunteer events, Master Composter volunteer hours and supervise select internships scheduled including a variety of workshops, tours and presentations the community relative to composting and organics recycling
  • Deliver programming on and off site, during work hours, evenings and weekends as
  • Develop new audiences for programming and actively cultivate deeper connections in the community relative to composting and organics recycling
  • Provide administrative support for all programming, including registration, run of event, communication and follow-up; replenishment of print materials and hard goods; and create and send our monthly newsletter
  • Support Master Composter class and engage MCs in NYC Compost Project work

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Two years experience as an educator on a farm or in an outdoor venue administrative tasks.
  • 30 lbs organization dump truck in NYC
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • Fluency in a second language, particularly Mandarin and Cantonese is preferred
  • Experienced composter and recycler
  • Knowledge of farm or vegetable & herb production and experience as an educator
  • Positive attitude and good work ethic, ability to self-direct for physical and

  • Local and community oriented with excellent communication skills
  • Adaptable and flexible to dynamic conditions and work hours
