Park Worker 3 at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay, NY
Planting Fields is a 409 acre public garden on the north shore of Long Island in Nassau County. It features a vast collection of woody plant collections, 22 themed gardens, 6 miles of walking trails and 2 ½ acres of display and production greenhouses. It also features an historic Olmsted landscape and unique architecture. 

 

 

Responsibilities/Duties

Candidates will need to perform duties in a greenhouse environment including general care , watering, planting, truing, pest management, pruning, etc. Candidates will need experience growing and caring for tropical and sub tropical plants as well as flowering annuals and bulbs, installing seasonal displays and curating collections such as orchids, cacti, begonias and house plants.  

 

Qualifications/Requirements

The Park worker 3 is a general title specifically assigned to work in a display and production greenhouse. Minimum qualifications in the operation and maintenance of a park, historic site or recreational facility, or two years experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson. or completion of an appropriate two year technical/trades school course.
