Start Date: 12/1/2023  Compensation: $18 per hour

Queens Botanical Garden is seeking a Part-Time attendant guard to work with the Security team.

Responsibilities/Duties

The Part-Time (PT) Attendant Guard reports to the Facilities Supervisor and under supervision does the following work:

  • Attends, guards, and patrols the botanical garden and perimeter
  • Light cleaning and labor duties
  • Assists in moving chairs and tables during special events
  • Works with Community Service and other volunteers
  • Meets, greets and provides basic wayfinding and related information to the visiting public, including groups.
  • Evening shifts may require you to be the only employee on-site

The PT Guard is responsible for:

  • Protection of the botanical garden buildings, equipment, and collections
  • Proper notification to supervisors with regard to hazardous conditions
  • Filing incident reports
  • Maintaining order in the area of assignment
  • Taking appropriate action as needed to notify supervisors, call police, fire department or ambulance, etc.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s license
  • Possess a NYS Security Guard Certification
  • Experience as a Guard or Security Officer in a similar setting
  • Ability to communicate in different languages, a plus
  • Ability to troubleshoot various situations
  • Customer service experience a plus
  • Cleaning experience a plus
  • Flexibility in schedule a plus
  • Fire Guard Certificate of Fitness a plus

Additional Information

This is a Part-Time year-round position with potential to go to Full-Time Union with benefits in the spring. This position is currently for 4 year-round shifts: Thursday through Sunday from midnight to 8am.
