The Beatrix Farrand Garden Association (BFGA) of Hyde Park, NY is seeking applicants for the position of Part-Time Program Administrator. BFGA is a partner group working alongside the National Park Service at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site and is dedicated to honoring and sharing the environmental and design legacy of pioneering landscape gardener Beatrix Farrand. By restoring and preserving the gardens she designed at the Bellefield Mansion (1912) and offering related educational and cultural programs, the association inspires visitors and increases public appreciation of her work. BFGA is governed by a board of directors, responsible for determining strategy and ensuring the implementation of its mission and is supported by an active group of advisors and volunteers. The annual operating budget is approximately $65,000 and other staff currently includes a part-time Horticulturist. 

The Program Administrator is a flexible part-time role with duties distributed over heavy and light cycles of activity during the year, some of which can be done remotely. The salary is $40/hour with a cap of approximately 400 hours annually. 

Examples of duties include: 

  • Working with the Board Treasurer and Development Committee on financial matters, including weekly bank deposits and researching and writing grant applications
  • Working with other staff, Board and volunteers to plan/develop/manage/ implement public programming, tours, and membership events
  • Attendance at all strategic planning/Board/committee meetings as well as all BFGA events
  • Media, promotional outreach, and some graphic design of programs and similar
  • Vendor contracting and management
  • Other related administrative work responsibilities, such as monitoring visitor communications, mail pick-up/processing, and biannual development campaigns


 

Responsibilities/Duties

Qualifications/Requirements

Ideally, the Program Administrator will have: impeccable written, verbal and presentation skills, hands-on experience with non-profit or public programming work, experience with grant writing, fundraising, or general financial oversight, ease and interest of public-facing with the community, donors and members, and flexibility, attentiveness, commitment and common sense.
