Part Time Seasonal Walled Garden Assistant

Start Date: 4/1/2026 Compensation: $25/hour
Old Westbury Gardens is looking for a motivated and passionate individual to assist with routine garden maintenance in our Walled Garden for the 2026 season. This is a part-time, seasonal position that has the potential to be recurring for the right candidate.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Gardening tasks including mulching, planting, watering, weeding, and fertilizing.
- Edging and reseeding of turf areas.
- Assisting with lotus pool maintenance.
- Planting large perennials and shrubs.
- Moving delicate containers for plant changeouts.
- Using a Bobcat to load mulch and topsoil into work vehicles.
- Keeping gravel paths clear and raked.
- Assisting with fall cleanup tasks.
- Organizing volunteers and interns when lead supervisor isn’t present.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Experience working in a garden setting, or related education.
- Ability to kneel, squat, dig, and bend for extended periods of time.
- Ability to productively lift 40+ pounds when necessary.
- Willingness to climb ladders.
- Preparedness to work in hot summer temperatures and light rain.
- Reliable transportation to the workplace.
Additional Information
Availability:
- 20 to 25 hours per week
- Either 2-3 full days a week, or 4-5 half days a week
- April through November
