Compensation: $25-$30/hour
Town and Gardens, Ltd. is seeking a detail-oriented and ambitious Plant Health Care Specialist to join our team. This role is your pathway into a leadership position within the specialized field of urban plant health. Under the mentorship of our team, you will take a high degree of responsibility for the scouting, diagnostics, and treatment of NYC’s most distinctive rooftop and terrace landscapes. With structured training and mentorship, you’ll progress toward becoming a licensed NY State Commercial Pesticide Applicator. This is an outdoor, all-season role in the heart of the city. You will work in diverse urban settings—from luxury rooftop terraces to shaded courtyards—often with tight access and challenging conditions. We provide a highly skilled support team and the best tools in the industry to help you thrive in this specialized trade.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Scout and Monitor: Act as the "eyes of the garden," independently monitoring for insects, diseases, abiotic stress, and site-specific health conditions.
- Diagnose and Document: Support high-level diagnostics by documenting issues, collecting samples, and photographing findings to build a comprehensive health profile for each site.
- Execute Treatments: Assist with supervised treatments—mixing, loading, and applying materials under the direction of a licensed applicator with a strict focus on safety and precision.
- Steward of Resources: Take full ownership of your specialized tools and PPE. You will be responsible for the daily cleaning, calibration, and organization of all PHC equipment.
- Collaborate and Educate: Partner with our field crews to implement plant health strategies
- Maintain Precise Records: Keep accurate, professional records of all treatments, weather conditions, and site observations via our digital software suite.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Horticultural Foundation: Minimum one year of relevant horticultural experience or equivalent training/education.
- Technical Mindset: A strong attention to detail and an eagerness to master the complexities of technical plant diagnostics.
- Physicality & Mobility: The ability to lift 50 lbs, work in all NYC weather conditions, and travel to job sites via public transit.
- Professionalism: A collaborative attitude with clear communication skills and total reliability in punctuality and task follow-through.
- Growth Goals (Preferred): 2+ years of urban landscape experience or a certificate in horticulture/arboriculture. A valid driver's license is a plus.
