Compensation: 48,000-51,500

The Resident Engineer provides our clients with the services and solutions needed to efficiently and effectively manage urban forests by identifying, measuring, inspecting, and supervising construction around
city trees, including street tree plantings, sidewalk reconstruction around trees, and natural area restoration. Extensive communication and reporting to clients are common. The successful candidate is proficient
in identifying problems and developing solutions.

Qualified candidates will be expected to supervise all aspects of construction and properly document the contractor’s quality of work and progress. They will be responsible for enforcing on-site safety, enforcing contract specifications to client standards, keeping written and photographic documentation of the work, and performing
pre/post-construction inspections.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Oversee tree preservation and construction services performed by the contractor
  • Ensure that contractors perform work safely and up to client standards
  • Assess overall tree health
  • Accurately record quantities and progress on contract
  • Report on a daily and weekly basis
  • Communicate effectively and assertively with contractors
  • Represent the company and the client to the public

This work will occur along city streets within the five boroughs of NYC. Specific task training is provided. Ability to work outside in various weather conditions and in urban environments is imperative. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently are also required. Computer literacy is required as the work involves the use of advanced technology equipment such as handheld computers, pen-tablet computers, GPS equipment, and GIS tree management software.
Proficiency in Microsoft programs, such as Excel and Word, is strongly preferred.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 2 to 4-year degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Horticulture,
  • Arboriculture, Environmental Science, Plant Biology, or related field
  • Six months of minimum work experience in arboriculture or related field
  • Ability to identify local tree species
  • Proficient working knowledge of computers, including basic Microsoft Excel use
  • Ability to work outdoors in various terrains and weather conditions
  • Current U.S. Driver’s License and Driving Record in good standing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ISA Certification or equivalent; or acceptance to take the ISA exam
  • Certified Arborist exam, to be passed within first 3 months of hire
  • Urban forestry experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of tree pests and diseases
  • Strong organizational skills preferred
