Start Date: 3/2/26 Compensation: $57k-$70k per year
Are you a sales powerhouse with a green thumb? The Old Yew is looking for a high-energy, results-driven Retail Store Manager to take the helm of our growing Upper West Side location. You will be the heartbeat of the store, responsible for driving revenue, cultivating a team of top performers, and ensuring every client leaves with not just the perfect plant, but an enjoyable retail experience that keeps them coming back. This is a role for a Sales Leader who loves closing the sale as much as they love the product.
Responsibilities/Duties
As the Retail Store Manager, you will be tasked with setting the team up for success at your primary retail location. You will spend the majority of your time on the floor, leading by example.
1. Drive Sales & Profitability
- Own the P&L: Take full ownership of the sales floor and POS. Set and exceed daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals.
- Maximize Revenue: actively manage average transaction value (ATV) and conversion rates. You are the expert on upselling pots, soil, and add-ons to increase basket size.
- Client Experience: Uphold our reputation as industry experts. Ensure every interaction is educational, engaging, and leads to a sale.
2. Lead & Develop the Team
- Coach in Real-Time: Supervise Keyholders, Associates, and Visual Merchandisers. Provide "in the moment" feedback on sales techniques and product knowledge.
- Training & Development: Continuously train staff on SOPs, Shopify systems, and sales strategies. You are responsible for building a team of true horticultural and sales experts.
- Culture: Set the tone for a high-energy, positive, and collaborative work environment.
3. Operations & Merchandising
- Visual Impact: Maintain a pristine, visually appealing storefront that drives foot traffic and sales.
- Inventory Command: Manage Transfer Orders (TOs) and cycle counts. Ensure we have the right stock at the right time (plants, pots, soil, lifestyle gifts).
- Problem Solving: Proactively communicate issues before they escalate. Manage staff scheduling, delivery logistics, and Houseplant Help tickets with efficiency.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years in retail or hospitality management. Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals is a must.
- The Sales DNA: You are comfortable selling high-ticket items and can teach others how to do the same with confidence.
- Leadership: Strong delegation skills. You know how to motivate a team during a rush and keep them productive during downtime.
- Operational Excellence: You are hyper-organized, responsive, and tech-savvy (Shopify, Google Drive/Suite experience preferred).
- Horticulture Interest: A working knowledge of common houseplants and care is highly preferred, but a passion for learning is required.
- Physical Stamina: You are energetic and ready to move. Must be able to lift/carry large plants and planters (up to 40 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
