Start Date: 6/11/2020  Compensation: 15.00/hr

Clinton Housing Development Company (CHDC) is a non-profit organization committed to developing permanent affordable housing through out the Manhattan neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen. Since the origins in 1973, CHDC has been equally commitment to developing green space, gardens and community alongside the affordable housing.

The Department of Community Cultivation at CHDC designs, installs and maintains garden spaces throughout the 40 properties, including rooftop gardens, courtyards, terraces, backyards and numerous street side plantings. These projects are all in very urban environments and include community involvement.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Plantings, delivering compost, removing litter and debris, and other tasks as necessary;
  • Maintain CHDC garden properties; tasks include weeding, watering, mulching, installing annual
  • Install new gardens projects;
  • Interact with large building maintenance staff;
  • Interact with public in a courteous manner;
  • Demonstrate efficiencies in time management and project completion;
  • Assist with community wide events, leading groups of volunteers and tenants;
  • Some design work opportunities possible based on knowledge;

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of professional field experience and/or horticultural school,
  • Ability to take direction and work well with others,
  • Ability to lift up to 50lb,
  • Energetic, motivated and hardworking,
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions,
  • Joy in a fast paced work place with the ability to juggle different and diverse projects at one time,
  • Ability to work well and communicate with a diverse community;
  • Ability to work rotating weekend schedule
