Start Date: Week of February 16, 2026  Compensation: $25.00 oer hour

Join Little Island’s Horticulture team and play a key role in preserving and enhancing a 2.4-acre landscape that delights thousands of visitors each year. Situated on the Hudson River, the park is home to over 350 plant varieties, 66,000 spring bulbs, and 14,000 square feet of lawn.

This temporary, full-time Seasonal Gardener role is designed for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in landscape maintenance. You will work closely with the Horticulture Supervisor and the entire team to support daily horticulture operations—including planting, weeding, mulching, pruning, and caring for seasonal landscape priorities. 

As an essential member of the team, you’ll assist with routine maintenance and special projects that shape the visitor experience. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to expand your horticultural knowledge while actively participating in the preservation and presentation of a beloved public space. Responsibilities/Duties

  • Maintain and enhance the park’s gardens through planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, and watering.
  • Conduct daily morning walkthroughs to ensure the landscape is safe, clean, and visually inspiring.
  • Collaborate with the Horticulture team to execute seasonal projects and priorities that shape the visitor experience. 
  • Safely operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment, including hedge trimmers, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
  • Identify and communicate park maintenance or safety concerns to Horticulture and Park leadership.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Little Island, answering visitor questions about the landscape, park history, and general park information.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Enthusiasm for horticulture, with prior gardening experience preferred but not required - willingness to learn is key.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and pride in contributing to a beautiful public space.
  • Team-oriented mindset, able to take direction and collaborate effectively.
  • Comfort operating gardening tools and equipment safely.
  • Basic computer proficiency: familiarity with Microsoft Office is a plus.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in all weather, including standing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., and prolonged periods of activity. 
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S.
