THE POSITION
We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and motivated individual with a passion for nature to help us build and maintain outdoor spaces that support a balanced, thriving ecosystem. We’re currently hiring for a full-time Seasonal Gardener for March-December 2026.
The Seasonal Gardener will provide garden care to existing residential gardens, ensuring they are properly maintained and cared for. They keep plants healthy and ensure the gardens thrive for all garden care clients. In addition to garden maintenance, the Seasonal Gardener will occasionally help with garden installations. At times, the gardener will assist with mechanical invasive plant removal and park maintenance (Up to 20 days total from May to October) as part of a public park restoration. The public park restoration hours specifically are at NJ Prevailing
Wage of $94.03 per hour.
The position is ideal for someone who has a demonstrated interest in horticulture and ecological restoration.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Garden maintenance of all types of gardens, including native and non-native plants
- Maintain existing gardens, including thorough weeding, pruning small trees and shrubs, fertilizing, garden clean-ups, and deadheading ornamental and vegetable plants
- Use power equipment such as mowers, line trimmers and blowers
- Monitor and flag any issues in the garden for management to look at
- Assist with garden care accounts and scheduling
- Mechanical removal of invasive plants and park maintenance
- Keeping detailed notes of each property and tasks completed
- Planting new gardens and annuals with install crew and independently
- Monitoring irrigation and landscape lighting systems
- Communicating with clients and management to ensure standards are met
- Perform other duties as needed
- Working overtime hours over 40 hours per week, compensated at 1.5 x hourly rate per hour, is required during height of season when necessary.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds. Has the stamina to perform physical labor (using machinery, lifting, bending, digging, squatting, etc.) in all weather conditions, including heat and cold for 8 hours a day
- Punctual and dependable
- Detail-oriented, work with precision and care
- Respectful communication to clients and staff, open to receiving feedback and directions
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Personal transportation to and from jobsites and Valid Driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Three seasons or more experience in horticulture, garden care, or ecological restoration
- Working knowledge of vegetable and ornamental plants
- Knowledge of or interest in learning native and invasive plant identification
- Knowledge of common garden pests/diseases and IPM
- Experience using power equipment such as mowers, line trimmers and blowers
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus
