Start Date: September Compensation: $20-25/hour
The 34th Street Partnership and the Bryant Park Corporation are hiring two seasonal horticulture crew members from September through the end of the year, with possibility for rehire in March 2026. The award-winning not-for-profit Business Improvement Districts, operating under a single management structure, share a mission to improve the quality of the commercial, physical, and public space environments in Midtown Manhattan.
The ideal candidate is an experienced landscape professional with a passion for urban plant maintenance and public horticulture. This is a full time, in-person (not remote) position starting in September 2025. Field / Office hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with one hour for lunch. The position involves outdoor work in all weather conditions. Due to the nature of managing fieldwork, candidates must be willing to work early mornings and occasionally on weekends.
Responsibilities/Duties
34th Street District
- District parks: Plant, water, weed, and otherwise maintain and monitor plantings in Herald and Greeley Square Parks.
- District pedestrian plazas: Monitor plant health in planters and tree pits; move horticulture and landscape elements at the request of District Manager.
- District Planters: Monitor plant health; clean and maintain planters; move planters at the request of District Manager.
- District Hanging Baskets: Monitor plant health, and maintain hanging baskets according to District standards.
- Tree Pits: Monitor tree and plant health and maintain tree pits according to District standards.
Bryant Park
- Plant bulbs, perennials, shrubs, and small trees in beds, borders, and planters; weed and maintain planting beds; water and maintain planters; move planters at the request of District Manager; maintain the lawn and gravel paths around the lawn.
Qualifications/Requirements
- A minimum of 1 year of hands-on urban horticulture experience
- Highly motivated, able to work independently, prioritize conflicting demands, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork qualities, with excellent listening skills, and an ability to work effectively with others
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States
