Seasonal Horticulturist
(Paid Opportunities) Return to Paid Opportunities
Foras Studio is a small landscape design firm based in Brooklyn, New
York. We are seeking an experienced and energetic Horticulturist to use
best horticultural practices to maintain 20-25 gardens per week, with
some occasional installation work.
You will maintain a regular schedule to provide courteous and
professional horticultural care for gardens designed and installed by
Foras Studio. Travel between clients is at your discretion, and you will
work on your own after a short training period.
Each maintenance visit will involve regular and seasonal garden chores
(dead-heading, staking, training, checking irrigation, cleaning, pest
management). Seasonal chores and large projects (planting, hedge
shearing, divisions, restorative pruning) will be coordinated with the
partners for additional help. Large tools and required resources are
provided on site.
A thorough assessment of plant health is an essential part of our
services and will be performed by you during each visit. We strive to
keep ahead of problems by evaluating soil moisture and basic fertility,
identifying pest and disease outbreaks, and performing regular formative
pruning. Special treatments will be coordinated with the partners so
necessary tools and additional help can be provided.
You will update a daily record of your activities, observations,
recommendations, etc. for each garden on our cloud-based maintenance
database.
We are a small firm and do much of our own schlepping so it is necessary
that candidates be able to lift 50lbs repeatedly, carry containerized
plants and small trees, and perform other rigorous garden chores such as
cultivating and amending soil.
Compensation is negotiable, competitive, and based on knowledge,
experience and education. Please email your cover letter, resume, and
references to info@foras-studio.com.
