Shop Assistant Manager

Compensation: $25-$30/hour
The Shop Assistant Manager reports directly to the Shop Owner. This role is for the generalist at heart - someone who has both retail supervisory and operational experience who also obsesses over the customers’ visit as much as they obsess over plants. You will support the overall running of the Shop while growing the business.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Maintain a customer-relationship-focused environment that is plant knowledge focused
- Build and maintain relationships within our community, and generate/support new opportunities
- Provide training, direction and feedback to Shop team to support the in-Shop experience
- Perform Shop opening and closing procedures including counting register funds, preparing bank deposits, opening and closing register
- Process deliveries, replenish Shop floor and Yard, maintain stock room
- Maintain overall Shop cleanliness, organization and visual presentation
- Support sales and payroll budgets by adjusting as necessary to meet the needs of the business
- Participate in the interviewing and hiring of the Shop Team
- Communicate business trends, product feedback, stock levels and customer requests to the Shop Owner and the Shop Team
- Utilize and build a breadth of plant care abilities and knowledge
Qualifications/Requirements
Skills Required
- Some gardening and houseplant experience
- Positive attitude
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- An understanding of small business operating details
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Motivation to problem solve
- Action oriented and energized by challenges and hard work
- Able to work independently
Additional Requirements
- Full time hours (35 hours+)
- Flexible schedule required, including a requirement to work evenings, weekends and days surrounding/including select holidays.
- Prior supervisory experience in a retail environment preferred
- Technological proficiency
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Ability to safely lift boxes up to 40 pounds
- Occasional outdoor work in inclement weather
- Ability and comfortability to climb ladders
