Compensation: $56,000-$58,000 per year
The Tree Care Coordinator (TCC) will lead urban forestry efforts across The Bronx is Blooming’s (BiB) project sites. They will coordinate tree stewardship activities, implement planting and watering plans, and oversee data collection related to tree health, canopy coverage, and maintenance needs. The TCC will collaborate closely with NYC Parks, schools, and community partners to build awareness of the environmental and public health benefits of urban trees, while engaging volunteers in meaningful tree care and advocacy efforts. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in arboriculture, community organizing, and environmental education.
Responsibilities/Duties
Lead Urban Forestry Projects
- Coordinate and lead tree planting, pruning, mulching, and watering events throughout the Bronx.
- Develop and execute seasonal tree care plans in collaboration with BiB staff and NYC Parks Forestry teams.
- Conduct tree inventories, monitor tree health, and maintain digital records of all stewardship efforts.
- Train staff, volunteers and youth participants in proper tree care techniques using hands-on instruction.
Inventory and Resource Management
- Track and maintain tools, mulch, watering equipment, and tree care supplies in all BiB Parks
- Submit purchase requests to the Environmental Program Manager and ensure all BiB storage facilities are properly stocked to perform tree care and planting activities.
- Develop maps of all BiB planting and natural areas restoration sites using GIS software.
- Maintain organized records of tree species, planting dates, care schedules, and field reports.
Education and Outreach
- Manage field based environmental education programming in partnership with Trees New York to provide Bronx K-12 schools hands on tree care experiences on their school campuses and in the blocks surrounding their schools to encourage urban forestry
- Develop partnerships with other NYC Environmental organizations for BiB’s tree stewardship programming
- Educate community members, youth, and volunteers about tree biology, urban forestry benefits, and local environmental justice issues.
- Represent BiB at community meetings and conferences to promote urban canopy initiatives and BiB projects
Qualifications/Requirements
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Passion for the environment, environmental justice, and youth development
- Ability to work independently and to be self-motivated
- Must be able to handle and maneuver equipment in weight up to 50 lbs
- Proficiency with G-Suite and Microsoft Office
- Valid NY State Driver's License
- Experience with GIS
Preferred:
- Spanish proficiency
- Knowledge of native plant species
- Educational background in Environmental Science/ Studies
- Experience with Airtable software
Additional Information
Time Commitment: Full Time Salaried, Tuesday - Saturday (March-November), Monday - Friday (December-February) with occasional weekend obligations. Start/end time will vary depending on event schedule. Early mornings and late evenings as required for events and meetings
Salary: $56,000-$58,000 depending on experience.
