Urban Grassland Integrated Nutrient & Pest Mgmt - Senior Extension Assoc.
Cornell University is searching for a Senior Extension Associate in Integrated Nutrient and Pest Management of Urban Grasslands (lawns, golf courses, school grounds, sports fields, green roofs, etc.) to be housed in New York City (Brooklyn). This position will lead and facilitate a statewide initiative to promote best management practices for nutrient and pest management issues to maximize ecosystem services and minimize environmental impact.
The successful candidate will have multidisciplinary knowledge and experience including, but not limited to, the disciplines of entomology, plant pathology, weed science, horticulture and agronomy, agricultural engineering. Experience in science communication and management, research or outreach relative to Urban Grasslands is an advantage.
The programmatic effort will include applied research on integrated nutrient and pest management, measurement of impacts, and communication of results to stakeholders leading to increased adoption of best management practices for progressive urban grasslands. This position will require work with policy makers and non-governmental organizations, as well as grounds managers, golf course superintendents, landscape architects and the public in order to reach the intended audiences.
- M.S. required (Ph.D preferred) in agronomy, plant pathology, weed science, entomology, horticulture, ecology, agricultural engineering, or a closely related field.
- Background in integrated nutrient and pest management in grasslands, turf, sod, green roofs, or golf courses, with a focus on applied research and extension/outreach.
- Experience in conducting, interpreting, evaluating and communicating the results of applied research.
